Hiroshima Anniversary
I wanted to write something really profound regarding the 60th anniversary of the atomic explosion over Hiroshima city. But I'm not sure what to say. It's not as if I don't have things to talk about but, if truth be told, I have a hunch that whatever I say will be pointless.
In the past 60 years, atom bombs are not only deadlier but there are many more countries who possess the capability to develop a nuclear arsenal. It's a matter of pride for some countries to have a bomb and for others it is a matter of deterrent. Though we are way past the silly one-up-man-ship that characterised the Cold War, the danger of a holocaust still remains because of the possibility of some terrorists getting hold of a bomb. Don't ask me how but the paranoid news media keeps talking about such an eventuality.
And since, holiness is not a human characteristic, I guess, anything can happen. I don't mean to sound pessimistic while saying this but that's how it is. This is the state of the world we are living in.
I would be glad to see some government leaders taking a courageous decision to give up atomic bombs. And I would be even more glad to see today's so-called 'terrorists' giving up 'violence' to achieve their goals.
But will that happen? Or do I have to continue dreaming this naive dream?
