The Amos Principle

Amos comes across as a fiery man of God railing against the injustices and social dysfunctionalities prevailing in the then kingdom of Israel. His was the prophetic voice that spoke God's heart into a society that was fast losing its spiritual and moral compass. It was tumbling head long into an abyss from which it was unable to recover, losing not just their nation but also their spiritual foundation.

There is a lesson we can learn from Amos. It doesn't matter whether or not we succeed in changing the status quo or even manage to shift prevalent paradigms. What really matters is that we speak up and let our voices be heard across the unresponsive stony hearts. It's quite possible that a few individuals may respond and there will be others who will oppose us passionately. That's an option and one that we cannot ignore.

People of God are not meant to win popularity contests but that doesn't mean one has to court opposition for opposition's sake and notch some brownie points in the matrydom sweepstakes. One has to be true to the Word, focused on God's heart, to be full of love and ready to die for the truth.

This blog is a feeble attempt at trying to grasp this Amos principle and applying it to the social, economic and political realities of today's world. It does not seek to push a right wing or left wing agenda nor will it attempt to promote any denominational ideology. It will seek to examine the state of the world in the light of God's word, and try to make some sense of any discrepancies that it may notice.

I will be inviting some friends to contribute to this blog. These friends are those that I've known for some time and have trusted them for their wisdom and integrity. And we hope together we'll try and understand things and, hopefully, one day we will have the courage and conviction to be an Amos to the world we live in.
