Fighting the torrents
The story could have ended differently, but it didn’t. It became the kind of tragedy people only talk about and use as an example to caution little children. He knew he could have been a greater person if only… he stopped and pondered at what could have been, but shook his head at the pointlessness of it all.
He couldn’t do anything to erase the errors of his past or blot out his weaknesses that so often compelled him to disobey God. It wasn’t as if he wanted to lead an ungodly life, but there was this helplessness within that he couldn’t resist… and neither did he want to.
He loved the warm sensation he felt while indulging in the things that were forbidden: it was like massive seismic undercurrents pushing and pulling and turning the landscape of his desires into some sort of paradise. And yet, later on, when he thought about it, an emptiness would form in his heart and regrets would turn his world into a mélange of despair and disappointment.
But this was not how he wanted his life to be, and neither was it expected to turn this way. An angel had told his parents that their son would be a mighty deliverer, and that he would be a man of great strength and power. And soon, stories of his valour spread far and wide – how he killed a lion with his bare hands, defeated an army single-handedly, and how he carried a city gate by himself.
However, it also made him popular, desirable, and attractive… and soon the adulation became more important than the mission for which God chose him.
But now as he stood here between the pillars, Samson knew there was only one thing he could do to redeem himself even if it meant his death. He closed his eyes, prayed as the walls collapsed.
