Pray for CPTers
The Christian Peacemaker Teams is an organisation that I greatly respect for the work they have been doing in different parts of the world in spreading the 'message of peace' that is so much a part of the gospel.
I have been impressed and touched by their work in Hebron as they monitored the atrocities committed against Palestinian civilians by Israeli settlers and security forces. Seeking a non-violent approach towards conflict resolution is their overall focus and they take their inspiration from the words of our Lord himself. Comprising of volunteers, the CPT workers are sent to specific conflict zones and are urged to make reports of what they observe as well as look at ways in which they can be a solution.
Obviously, this hasn't endeared them well in the eyes of many 'oppressive' governments and it won't be wrong to say that they live on the edge.
But the reason why I am talking about CPT today is because news has arrived that a couple of CPT workers in Iraq have been kidnapped, and we need to PRAY for their safety and quick rescue. We must also pray that their kidnappers' hearts would be softened and that these workers would get a chance to share the gospel and Christ's message of peace with them. All said and done, we need to pray for them.
I will 'copy and paste' below some of the email dispatches I have received from CPT.
Statement from the Christian Peacemaker Team in Iraq:
On November 26, 2005, two members of Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) and two members of a CPT visiting delegation were taken in Baghdad.
Christian Peacemaker Teams has been present in Iraq since October 2002, providing first-hand, independent reports from the region, working with detainees of both United States and Iraqi forces, and training others in nonviolent intervention and human rights documentation.
Christian Peacemaker Teams is a violence reduction program. Teams of trained peacemakers work in areas of lethal conflict around the world.
More information will follow when available and/or appropriate.
_______________
Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) seeks to enlist the whole church in organized, nonviolent alternatives to war and places teams of trained, peacemakers in regions of lethal conflict. Originally a violence-reduction initiative of the historic peace churches (Mennonite, Church of the Brethren and Quaker), CPT now enjoys support and membership from a wide range of
Christian denominations.
